Hot Mess

I totally understand the tough times this economy has produced.  It's been horrid.  Friends with several degrees have been sitting at home with no job and no prospects for months.  It's really been quite depressing.  And trust me I get that.

What I don't get is why I saw a girl yesterday, carrying Chanel knock off bags with broken handles.  Huh?

Like, the kind of broken where the leather on the handle was split and the inside plastic-y part of the handle was showing.  I'm not in any way making light of the fact that some of us don't have the cash to go out buy a new bag on the fly.  Trust me.  I was a university student for 12 years.  I know broke better than most people.

But what I don't get is why would you still strut your stuff, like this one did yesterday.  I'm talking PROUD AS PUNCH - LOOK AT MY *cough* "REAL" CHANEL BAG (with the broken handle) and walked around like a peacock showing off feathers!!  I think my jaw dropped.  I think I'm still in shock today!  That's ballsy!

This is a delicate topic because I come off as the asshole who is making fun of  a girl with a broken bag.  Trust me I see that.  And me who's trying to be all high and mighty.  I'm so not though. I 'm confused how a person thinks that this still looks good and that the rest of us are going to think a) it's a real Chanel and b) that is why you are still walking around with a broken / ripped handle.

I'm weirdly perturbed by this.  I know it's me because I told my husband and he looked at me like I had 9 eyes.   He's more into Tiger Woods' dilemma and subsequent Tiger Woods jokes *rolls eyes*

Seriously, I'd take a plastic Sobey's (that's a grocery store in Canada) bag around before I carry a replica  purse with a broken handle.  I know this is gonna sound strange but if it weren't a replica and it had a broken handle, I would not care.  I guess its loosely based on when you carry something with a high end brand name on it, there is a statement being made.  Whether you endorse that statement or not is not relevant.  Something about it being a replica and broken just makes me feel all funny.  You definitely are not making that statement with a broken brand named bag.  If for a second a person thinks that we are all gonna stand around and say, that poor girl, her genuine Chanel is broken!, How Sad, that person is delusional.

Dude, we know it's a fake.  That's probably why it's broken.  You cannot strut your stuff with a broken fake.  You can't.  Just don't. With a good high end INTACT replica, yes.  Not a broken one where we can see plastic handle parts.

Okay, rant over.  I'm gonna go take my meds now.
